On Wednesday, September 14th, we are going to Quigley’s Restaurant at 43 E. Jefferson Ave., Naperville, for lunch at noon. We will be given individual checks. We will then walk over to “Le Chocolat du Bouchard” Shop and Café at 129 S. Washington St., Naperville. Cathy Bouchard, owner, is expecting us between 1:30 and 2:00 and will give a mini seminar on the health benefits of chocolate and samples of her chocolate will be available. The party room is located on the second floor and there is no elevator.

The Children and Family Work Area has reserved the Tivoli Movie Theater for our Rally Day celebration. Everyone that attends church and/or Sunday School on Rally Day, September 11th, will receive a ticket to the movie Despicable Me that will be shown at 1:30pm.

At noon, everyone is invited to the gym to enjoy lunch together. The menu will be hot dogs, fries, fruit, cookies, and lemonade. Cost will be $4/adult and $2/child (12 and under). Please sign up in the Parlor or by contacting the church office by September 4th.

Join Carol Lysne as the Foundations Sunday school class for adults starts its second year. We meet each week at 9:30am in the Adult Education Room, to share our experiences, feelings. doubts and ideas about what it means to live out our faith in the twenty-first century.

All are welcome to attend.

Lend A Hand!

Church and Society, Missions, and Environmental Stewardship Work Areas invite everyone, members and friends, to join in a Church-Wide Day of Service 8 to noon, Saturday, September 10th, with lunch at FUMC immediately following. You can choose to help at one of three external sites, or join in activities at DGFUMC.

The external sites to volunteer at are:

• People's Resource Center
• Downers Grove Park District
• Almost Home Kids

Sign-up sheets will be available in the Parlor before and after the 10:00 am service or register online.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry makes shawls for those who are ill, grieving, experiencing particularly challenging times or to those who are celebrating special joys.

Anyone interested in knitting or crocheting is welcome.  Instruction is available at all meetings for anyone who has never knitted before. Come!  You are welcome.

Fred Moore, a retired high school teacher of 33 years in Illinois, recreates a portion of the life of John Wesley, the Anglican priest from London who began the Methodist movement in the 18th century. Wesley, at the age of 70, looks back on his life and experiences.
