May 6th, 2012 - Evolutionary Christianity: Richard Lewis

Evolutionary Christianity proposes that God acts in and through the evolutionary process. It draws upon the words of Jesus and Paul to explain the evolutionary impulse and our responsibility in creating the Kingdom of God, a Kingdom of Love. Richard Lewis is a retired UCC Minister. He received his Ph.D.

Come join the DGFUMC youth for tacos and laser tag on Saturday, May 5! We will meet at the church @ 4PM for a taco dinner and then head over to Laser Quest in Downers Grove for some fun.

The cost to play laser tag is $8.50 per game. If you would like to bring a side dish for dinner, we'd love it!

Adults are needed to help drive to and from Laser Quest. Volunteers will be paid in tacos and appreciation!!!

This Sunday we recognize our 8th grade students who have gone through the Onward Bound program and have made the committment to become members of this First United Methodist Church. Please join us in worship at 11:00 to support this important step in their lives.

Sunday School for 1st through 6th grade is cancelled at 11:00 as we encourage those children to come to worship and experience the 8th Grade Confirmation service.

April 1st, 2012 - Facing Alcoholism: The Way of A.A.: Mary Carrigan

A.A. has helped people overcome addictions since 1935 when one addict shared the "good news" with another addict. A.A. is a spiritual program that transforms lives when worked.

Our normal Sunday Night Programs include:
4-5 Jr High Youth Group
5-5:30 Jr and Sr High Fellowship - games, worship, activities, etc
5:30-6 Community Meal
6-7 Sr High Youth Group

If you are interested in joining FUMC, New Members Classes are offered approximately once a quarter. You are invited to attend one of the two classes. New members will be received into membership on Sunday, April 29 at the 9:30AM service. Come hear our Chancel Choir as they present "A Little Jazz Mass" by Bob Chilcott, with a Jazz trio featuring Stuart Seale on piano, Tim Ipsen on bass, and Nils Hidgon on drums. They will also be performing "Songs of Faith" by Paul Basler, featuring Gary Greene on horn and Accompanist Pattie Barnes on piano.

The Cantata will be featured at both the 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. services.

There will be a Confirmation lock-In for all 8th graders expecting to be confirmed this year. The Lock-In will be on Saturday night and will range from thoughtful reflection on the confirmation process - to silly games and fun activities. Confirmation is one of the most important steps in your spiritual journey - come join the fun!
