October 16th is Laity Sunday, celebrating the active leadership and involvement of the laity both inside and outside our church. Services will be lead by Julie Stone & Don Dunham with the message given by Terry McDorman. The last service will be followed by the Harvest Fest luncheon.
We are excited to begin our 3rd Annual Interfaith Youth Project!
This year's project will be different than what we've done in the past. We are looking for all interested 6th-12th graders to participate. We again are partnering with the youth from the Mohammed Webb Foundation. In the past, youth from the groups have worked together on service projects to raise money for charities. This was wonderful service and a great way to get to know each other.
This year, we tried to plan activities that would be informative, fun and allow the youth groups to spend time together without requiring any extra time or work outside of Sunday mornings. You may participate in as many weeks as you are able, so if you come 3, or 4, or all 5 times - great! The more you come, the more you will get to know the kids from Webb and the more they will get to know you. If you have participated in the Interfaith project in the past, you will see a lot of familiar faces! Parents are always welcome to come along!
It is that time of the year again to begin the movies. Everyone knows of the Cannes Film Festival, the Tribeca Film Festival, the Sundance Film Festival, but soon to be world known will be the Slowdance Film Festival. All the other festivals come and go in a few days or a few weeks, but no, the Slowdance Film Festival takes eight to nine months to be held.

Yes, the DGFUMC Bridge Board is alive and well! For those of you who may be new to DGFUMC, the Bridge Community Board supports a homeless family in transitional housing and provides mentorship for them as well.
Your worship experience at DGFUMC is enhanced by the volunteer efforts of this many faceted work area. Whether a preschooler singing in the Angel Choir or a bundled up parking attendant on a cold winter’s morning, this Work Area operates behind the scenes to support the pastors and help to provide a spiritually fulfilling worship experience for you and your family.

On Rally Day, September 11, we invite all families to register for Sunday School over the coming year. We will have tables set up specially to receive registration cards and to direct you to the correct locations for your children. Every family needs to register annually; this is how we collect emergency contacts and allergy information for each child.
Yellow registration cards have been sent out to families who have already registered. If you would like to receive one, please contact the church office.

The United Methodist Women of this church will celebrate an annual event, the Children's Sabbath, on August 28. It is appropriate that this takes place on the Sunday the congregation will be hearing about John Wesley. Mr.Wesley worked to improve the lives of children in England during his ministry.
We will give you the opportunity to unite with First United Methodist Church, Downers Grove on Sunday, September 25 during the 11:00am Worship Service.
Prior to membership, a Prospective New Member Class will be held at the 1108 Maple Ave. parsonage on Sunday, September 18 at 6:30PM..
Onward Bound is the name of our Confirmation Program for students in 7th and 8th grades. We feel it is important for young people to work on developing their faith in such a way that it will become a solid resource for coping with the challenges of life, during the teenage years and, ultimately, for the rest of their lives.
