The church library is located in Room 116 and is available to all members. The books, including novels, biography and non-fiction, have a mainly religious focus and are checked out and returned on an honor system.

Book donations are always welcome.

The First United Methodist Church of Downers Grove, 1032 Maple Avenue, is located on the southern edge of the downtown Downers Grove business district. The Church is a few hundred feet west of the intersection of Maple Avenue and Main Street.

The Youth Ministry Program of First United Methodist Church in Downers Grove seeks to provide opportunities to grow in faith, connect with others, and nurture service oriented individuals to live out Christ's love in the world. We provide a number of opportunities for youth in the community, including the following:

Community Adult Day Center (CADC) is a not-for-profit organization serving DG and surrounding communities. The center provides a dignified and pleasant environment for any adult needing daytime care and is an alternative to full-time in-home care. Clients enjoy a warm, supportive atmosphere, creative program, nutritionally-balanced meal, and an opportunity to share with others of the same age group, as well as social activities, including physical exercise, field trips and current events programs.

We feel it is important for young people to work on developing their faith in such a way that it will become a solid resource for coping with the challenges and triumphs of life. The goal of our Junior High Ministry is to build these resources and, in the process, make Disciples for Christ.

There are many ways that the Church community teaches its members how to be disciples. Students are invited each week to explore the Bible, discuss theological topics, and apply components of faith to their daily lives. Seventh graders explore an overview of the Bible through a curriculum called "Echo the Story" while eighth graders explore theological topics and Methodist tradition through a curriculum called "Collaborate."

In a typical year, students are required to volunteer within different areas of the church community in order to form a more complete understanding of what it means to be a part of an active and vibrant faith community. For now, we are suspending this requirement due to the uncertain nature of the coronavirus pandemic. We hope to return to these volunteer opportunities at some point in the future.

The 15th Annual Downers Grove Garden Walk gives you an opportunity to view some of the most beautiful gardens in the area. All proceeds benefit the DGFUMC Bridge Board in providing transitional housing and mentoring for homeless families.

Tickets are now available online or at the following locations:

• Community Bank of Downers Grove, 1111 Warren Ave.
• The Growing Place, 25W471 Plank Rd, Naperville
• Phillip's Flowers and Gifts, 528 N. Cass Ave., Westmont

Tickts are $20 in advance. Tickets also are available on Saturday, July 10 at each of the gardens, and at Downers Grove First United Methodist Church from 9:30 a.m. to noon in our parking lot for $25.
