Roger Ebert lavished high praise on director Barbra Streisand for the 1991 film The Prince of Tides, a multi Academy Award-nominated romantic drama starring Streisand, Nick Nolte, and Blythe Danner. John Smoke will present this film, the story of Tom Wingo (Nolte), an unemployed teacher and football coach who travels from his South Carolina home to New York City to help in the recovery of his suicidal twin sister. Meeting with his sister's psychiatrist, Susan Lowenstein (Streisand), he begins to confront his own demons, developing feelings for Lowenstein along the way. It is a compelling and complex story that should generate a many-layered, deep discussion afterward.
